Consultations With Your Celestial Family During Lucid Dreams

    Astral ProjectionIn Âtmavedî IV, we advance to the awakening of that 1/3 of our lives which has largely been wasted in unconscous sleep and useless dreams. The significance of this course is difficult to grasp at first. An entire world of experience will open up to you that will include wonderful celestial experience, advanced initiations, and preliminary work and training for assuming our role in Brahman Consciousness as an employee of Lord Vishnu, responsible for the maintanence of this Universe.

    Consultations with your Celestial Family during lucid dreams is an important part of Âtmavedî IV that we should learn now because it will be an invaluable experience and can be mastered without very much preparation. All we really need is to know is how to meditate and have our MahaYajña Vitara. So we are presenting the Lucid Dreaming module now, in advance of the full Âtmavedî IV course.

    Instead of spendng our nights being lost in dreams, we learn to leave the phyical body using the prana body and explore the astral realms, we learn to apprehend the dream state and dissolve the dreams, leaving us awake in the unique state of consciousness where we are free of the physical body, centered in the manomaya kosha. When you are deprived of physical stimulus (from the sleeping body) and conceptual stimulus (from the dreaming mind), you can observe the purest form of conscious awareness.

    Astral Projection Possibilities

    Next we delve into the realm of Manomaya Kosha. Dream Yoga utilizes the manomaya kosha and is not dependent on learning astral projection. We recommend first mastering the pranamaya kosha realm then moving on to Lucid Dreaming and Dream Yoga and in the higher realm of manomaya kosha and beyond, through the gap of vijñanamaya kosha into anandamaya kosha.

    Lucid DreamingLucid dreaming means dreaming while knowing that you are dreaming. The term was coined by Frederik van Eeden who used the word "lucid" in the sense of mental clarity. Lucidity usually begins in the midst of a dream when the dreamer realizes that the experience is not occurring in physical reality, but is a dream. Often this realization is triggered by the dreamer noticing some impossible or unlikely occurrence in the dream, such as flying or meeting the deceased. Sometimes people become lucid without noticing any particular clue in the dream; they just suddenly realize they are in a dream. A minority of lucid dreams (according to the research of LaBerge and colleagues, about 10 percent) are the result of returning to REM (dreaming) sleep directly from an awakening with unbroken reflective consciousness.

    The basic definition of lucid dreaming requires nothing more than becoming aware that you are dreaming. However, the quality of lucidity can vary greatly. When lucidity is at a high level, you are aware that everything experienced in the dream is occurring in your mind, that there is no real danger, and that you are asleep in bed and will awaken shortly. With low-level lucidity you may be aware to a certain extent that you are dreaming, perhaps enough to fly or alter what you are doing, but not enough to realize that the people are dream representations, or that you can suffer no physical damage, or that you are actually in bed.

    Lucid Dreaming ArtLucidity is not synonymous with dream control. It is possible to be lucid and have little control over dream content, and conversely, to have a great deal of control without being explicitly aware that you are dreaming. However, becoming lucid in a dream is likely to increase the extent to which you can deliberately influence the course of events. Once lucid, dreamers usually choose to do something permitted only by the extraordinary freedom of the dream state, such as flying.

    You always have the choice of how much control you want to exert. For example, you could continue with whatever you were doing when you became lucid, with the added knowledge that you are dreaming. Or you could try to change everything--the dream scene, yourself, other dream characters. It is not always possible to perform "magic" in dreams, like changing one object into another or transforming scenes. A dreamer's ability to succeed at this seems to depend a lot on the dreamer's confidence. As Henry Ford said, "Believe you can, believe you can't; either way, you're right." On the other hand, it appears there are some constraints on dream control that may be independent of belief.

    A mysterious and highly controversial phenomenon sometimes occurs in which people experience the compelling sensation that they have somehow "left their bodies." The "out-of-body experience" or "OBE", as this fascinating phenomenon is usually termed, takes a variety of forms. In the most typical, you are lying in bed, apparently awake, when suddenly you experience a range of primarily somatic sensations, often including vibrations, heaviness, and paralysis. Then you experience the vivid sensation of separating from your "physical body" in what feels like a second body, often floating above the bed.

    It is important to note the distinction between the phenomenal reality of the OBE and the various interpretations of the experience. What is really happening when you feel yourself "leaving your body"? According to one school of thought, what is actually happening is just what it feels like: you are moving in a second body out of and away from your physical body--in physical space. But this "explanation" doesn't hold up very well under examination. After all, the body we ordinarily feel ourselves to be (or if you like, to inhabit) is a phenomenal or mental body rather than a physical body. The space we see around us is not physical space as "common sense" tells us, but as modern psychology makes clear, a phenomenal or mental space. In general, our consciousness is a mental model of the world.

    01 - What is Lucid Dreaming and Its Practical Benefits

    Celestial FamilyUpon hearing about lucid dreaming for the first time, people often ask, "Why should I want to have lucid dreams? What are they good for?" If you consider that once you know you are dreaming, you are restricted only by your ability to imagine and conceive, not by laws of physics or society, then the answer to what lucid dreaming is good for is either extremely simple (anything!) or extraordinarily complex (everything!). Lucid dreaming is the stepping stone to Dream Yoga, so we learn lucid dreaming with that ultimate goal.

    02 - Step 1: How to Lucid Dream - Getting Started

    Lucid Dreaming - ExploringA lucid dream is as vivid and real as the "real" waking life. Yet you know you are dreaming; you can control the dream. In a lucid dream you can go anywhere, meet anyone, do anything. Anything you can imagine, you can experience as real.

    Lucid dreaming is a technique that allows us to make use of some of those hours otherwise wasted in sleep. In our lucid dreams we can put our dreams to some purpose: analyse our dream symbols, face our challenges and have fun!


    03 - Step 2: How to Lucid Dream Using Dreamsigns, the Doors to Lucidity

    Lucid Dreaming - Dream SignsTo become aware that you're dreaming, you need to know what your dreams are like. You need to be able to recognise them. To do this you will need to spend some time recording your dreams.

    Create a Dream-Trine: setup a special table next to you bed, buy a very nice bound dream journal that has some sentimental value for you, and a nice pen and put the journal and pen on the table. You do not take this journal or pen with you - leave it on the table and you will journal your dream experiences. Then you create an Intentions Spot by defining a circle on the table - this is where you put the things in that you want to dream about that will induce the lucid dream.

    04 - Step 3: How to Lucid Dream by Creating Excitement for Lucid Dreaming

    Lucid Dream Pretty FaceGather some memories of some very exciting, happy and wonderful times and you think about these beautiful happy times as you go through these exercises. This will give your subconscious mind a very positive message that you are serious about lucid dreaming and you want to associate lucid dreaming with excitement and enthusiasm. The only way you are going to get lucid is if you associate lucid dreaming with happiness and excitement.

    So go to the last 10 blank pages of your dream journal and write down several of your most exciting, happy and wonderful experiences. Every night before you go to sleep, review those experiences and tell yourself that through the power of lucid dreaming you will have more and more of these wonderful experiences every single night as you lucid dream!

    05 - Step 4: How to Lucid Dream Using Memory Development

    Lucid Dream FairyIn order to make various techniques of lucid dreaming incubation successful, we need to be able to remember to do things that we have planned to do. Psychologists call this “prospective memory” development. We all use prospective memory every day to remind us to do necessary and ordinary things, such as picking up the laundry, paying bills, meeting appointments, and brushing our teeth. Prospective memory becomes more difficult when the planned action is new to us, and we are not stimulated to remember it by frequent, salient cues. Unfortunately, we cannot use written memos to help us remember to do things in our dreams, and that makes it quite challenging to remember to carry out our intention to recognize when we are dreaming.

    One way around this difficulty is to make a habit of questioning our mental state. This is the purpose of the Reflection/Intention exercise explained below. Another way is to develop our prospective memory so that we don’t have to rely on external cues to remember to notice when we are dreaming. Memory in general seems to be somewhat less functional in the dream state than in the waking state.

    06 - Step 5: How to Lucid Dream with Reflection Intention

It is important to spend another week in this area because in order to make various techniques of Lucid Dream incubation successful, we need to be able to remember to do things in our lucid dreams that we have planned to do. Psychologists call this “prospective memory” development.     07 - Step 6: How to Lucid Dream using the Mnemonic Induced Lucid Dream Technique

    Lucid Dreaming ArtemisThe acronym MILD stands for Mnemonic Induction of LDs. A mnemonic is a memory-aid, and MILD is a Lucid Dream induction technique based on memory. This is why we have been improving our memories. The MILD technique is based on remembering that we want to recognize when we are dreaming. Our efforts up until now have been to teach ourselves to carry out intentions to do things in the future by mental effort alone (no written reminder notes!) and by increasing our powers of concentration. Because MILD is practiced during the night, it is very useful for producing multiple LDs in one night. Each time we do MILD, our aim is to become lucid in our very next dream. If we practice MILD before each REM period, we could become lucid in four or five different dreams. MILD is the technique of choice if the goal is to learn to have LDs at will, whenever we like.

    08 - Step 7: How to Lucid Dream and Stay in the Dream

    Lucid DreamAwakening only moments after becoming lucid is one of the most frequently cited difficulties faced by LDers. Happily, this problem is easily solved and is primarily a hurdle for beginning LDers to overcome.

    The problem of avoiding premature awakening from LDs breaks down into two phases. The first step for many will be to learn how to get beyond the initial flash, “Wow! This is a Lucid Dream!” without jolting awake. The next stage is to achieve some proficiency in methods of prolonging LDs long enough to achieve your goals.

    The general strategy for preventing immediate awakening is to suppress the expression of excitement and to engage in the dream. As a model of how to contain the thrill of becoming lucid, imagine what it’s like to be dealt a winning hand in poker. If you let it be known what you are holding by showing your delight, you won’t win much. Instead, you want to be “cool”, a mood that can be practiced, and save your excitement for after you have won, or, in this case, after the Lucid Dream has reached a suitable end.

    09 - Step 8: How to Lucid Dream by Activating the Anterior Amygdala for Limitless Mental Ability

    One of the most important technique for Lucid Dreaming is known as the Wake Back to Bed Method. If we combine this technique with the Amygdala Technique enhanced with the Nirvana Vitara, the success rate is very high.

    • STEP ONE - Go to bed as normal and allow yourself to sleep for six hours (4 sleep cycles). Set your alarm clock or have another early riser wake you up.
    • STEP TWO - After six hours, get out of bed and fully wake yourself up. Go to the restroom then return to your bed and perform the Amygdala Technique.
    • STEP THREE - go to sleep for one more 90 minute sleep cycle.

    During this time use the Amgydala Module of the Nirvana Vitara to switch forward the Amgydala for limitless mental ability, then lay down with the module still in place to guide you through sleep cycle 5 and Lucid Dreaming.
